Legal Service Support at ORMMS: Justice for All

Updated: Aug 8

At Oregon Rohingya Myanmar Muslim Society (ORMMS), we understand that navigating the legal system in a new country can feel overwhelming — especially for immigrants and refugees facing language barriers, unfamiliar paperwork, and urgent family needs.

That’s why ORMMS offers a Legal Service Support Program designed to help our community access justice, understand their rights, and connect with the resources they need to protect themselves and their families.

What We Offer

ORMMS provides free, culturally responsive legal support services to individuals and families in need. While we are not a law firm and do not provide direct legal representation, we offer critical guidance, referrals, and hands-on assistance in areas such as:

  • 🛂 Immigration Support: Help with green card applications, renewals, naturalization applications, asylum referrals, and may more.

  • 🏠 Housing & Tenant Rights: Support with eviction notices, renters' rights information, and fair housing education

  • 🧾 Document Assistance: Help completing legal paperwork, translations, and scheduling appointments

  • 🗣️ Interpreter Support: Accompaniment or interpretation for legal meetings (when possible)

  • 🤝 Referrals: Connection to trusted pro bono legal aid organizations and immigration attorneys

Who We Serve

We proudly serve Rohingya, Burmese, Somali, Afghan, and other immigrant and refugee families in the Portland area — especially those who face linguistic and cultural barriers in the legal system. All services are free and confidential.

Languages supported include:✔ Rohingya ✔ Burmese ✔ English, many more

🤲 Why It Matters

For many refugee families, legal challenges can lead to fear, inaction, or even exploitation. At ORMMS, we believe that legal support is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. We walk alongside our community to make sure no one is left behind because of language, status, or lack of access.

If you or someone you know needs help understanding their legal rights or getting connected to legal aid, please reach out to us. You are not alone.

Let justice be accessible to everyone..
