Get to Know Us

The Oregon Rohingya Myanmar Muslim Society (ORMMS) is a community-based nonprofit and IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) serving Rohingya, Myanmar, immigrant, and refugee families across Oregon. Founded by community members, ORMMS provides culturally grounded support while strengthening connection, dignity, and opportunity.

Our work includes language access, youth leadership programs, cultural and educational activities, food distribution, and community-based services that meet immediate needs.

At the same time, ORMMS brings families together to build shared voice, develop leadership, and pursue long-term solutions to the systemic challenges our community faces.

By honoring cultural identity while fostering integration, ORMMS combines direct support with community empowerment to create lasting, community-led change.

Misson

The Oregon Rohingya Myanmar Muslim Society (ORMMS) empowers immigrants, refugees, BIPOC and underserved communities—especially those from Myanmar—through culturally grounded support, self-sufficiency, and strong community connections, while honoring heritage and promoting equity. We also support community members in building shared voice and pursuing long-term solutions to the systemic challenges affecting their lives.

Vision

We envision a thriving, inclusive society where all immigrants, refugees, and underserved communities—especially those from Myanmar—are welcomed, empowered, and able to live with dignity, opportunity, and cultural pride.

ABOUT / OUR STORY

Our Story

ORMMS was founded in late 2024 by Rohingya elders, parents, and community leaders who recognized that while direct services were important, they were not enough. Families were navigating housing insecurity, language barriers, and economic hardship without a collective voice or culturally grounded space to lead solutions.

The organization was created to be community-led and community-accountable, ensuring that those most impacted by systemic barriers could define priorities and build leadership from within. Founders remain actively involved today, serving on the board and guiding the organization’s direction.

ORMMS was built on the belief that lasting change comes not only from support, but from unity, leadership, and collective problem-solving. Through culturally grounded programs and community organizing, we work to strengthen both immediate wellbeing and long-term community power.
