THROWBACK | ROHINGYA GENOCIDE REMEMBRANCE DAY 2026

On August 25, 2026, members of the Rohingya community in Portland came together at Masjid Omar Faruq to observe Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day—a solemn occasion to remember the victims, honor survivors, and stand in solidarity with Rohingya people around the world.

The gathering included Quran recitation, community speakers, prayers for the victims, reflections from Rohingya genocide survivors, Maghrib prayer, and a community dinner.

Remembering the Past, Standing With Survivors

August 25 holds deep significance for Rohingya communities. It is a day to remember those who lost their lives, families who were displaced from their homes, and survivors who continue to carry their experiences with them.

The Portland gathering provided a space for community members to come together in remembrance, faith, compassion, and solidarity. Most importantly, it created an opportunity for survivors to share their voices and ensure that their experiences and the stories of those who were lost are not forgotten.

We remember. We stand together. We raise our voices.

ORMMS recognizes the importance of preserving Rohingya history, uplifting survivor voices, and ensuring that future generations understand the experiences and resilience of their community.
