ORMMS Successfully Hosts Home Sharing Outreach Event

Building Community Awareness Around Safe & Affordable Housing

On May 16, 2026, Oregon Rohingya Myanmar Muslim Society (ORMMS) successfully hosted our Home Sharing Outreach Event at the ORMMS community space in East Portland, bringing together community members to learn about safe, affordable, and culturally responsive housing opportunities.

The event focused on introducing ORMMS’s new Culturally Responsive Home Sharing Program, which aims to support immigrant and refugee families facing housing instability, rising rental costs, overcrowding, and barriers navigating housing systems.

During the outreach session, participants learned about:

  • Affordable shared housing opportunities

  • Housing navigation and support services

  • Tenant and homeowner expectations

  • Safety, communication, and respectful shared living

  • Available multilingual support and mediation assistance

Community members actively participated in discussions, asked important questions, and shared their own housing experiences and challenges. The event created a welcoming space for learning, dialogue, and community connection.

ORMMS also presented information on:

  • Fair housing practices

  • Program eligibility and intake process

  • Community impact and housing stability

  • Ongoing support available through the program

The outreach event highlighted the importance of culturally responsive housing support and the need for trusted community-based solutions in East Portland.

We are grateful to all community members, volunteers, and supporters who attended and contributed to the success of this event.

Together, we continue building stronger, safer, and more connected communities.
